Major Sub-Release v1.3 Uploaded

Here the summary of changes done in version 1.3:

  • Plans - major addition to Organizer's core functionality, allowing to manage multiple, auto-renewable periodical plans (e.g., daily, weekly, half-yearly) with objectives related to values, projects, and activities
  • Editor enhancements. The following editor actions now work properly :

    • Copy & paste
    • Undo / redo
    • Delete at the end of a paragraph
    • Backspace in the beginning of a paragraph
  • Remaining effort now automatically updated when actual effort is logged for an activity / project
  • Navigational improvements

    • Go To popup menu now includes Value choice (goes to the first value)
    • Related To column added to Logs, Activities, and Recurring Tasks, compactly displaying related master object (e.g., project to which activity belongs) and its status; recommended to make this column visible instead of Activity, Project, Contact columns.
  • Derby log no more appears on the desktop (the existing derby.log file may be freely removed)
  • Reports sort order now correctly reflects manual changes to sub-node order for newly added sub-nodes

New Major Facility: Planner!

New facility - Planner - has being added to Golden Rules Organizer with recently uploaded release v1.2.4.

It is now possible to maintain multiple periodical (automatically renewed) and one-time plans of any duration (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly plans).

Each plan includes a number of objectives related to selected activities, projects, or values that are to be reached during the planned period. Specific due date may be set for each objective. As progress is done, objectives can be marked as fully or partially complete.

Objectives can be viewed from related activities, projects, and values.

Version 1.3 (coming soon) will be accomplished with Planner Reports, but otherwise Planner is already fully functional . Highly recommended to download and try!

Tip: How to Link to E-Mail Message

Following methods can be used to link to an e-mail message from Golden Rules Organizer:

Method 1 - Internet E-Mail

  • Open the e-mail message in the Internet account (e.g., Gmail), archive it to a permanent folder, and copy its Internet address (http://...) to clipboard (Ctrl-C)
  • Paste the Internet address (Ctrl-V) as link text in the Organizer (in References, Description hyperlink, or Listings).

To open the message, sign-in to your Internet e-mail and press the link in the Organizer.

Method 2 - local e-mail client

  • Save the message as file (using Save As function of the e-mail client)

Recommendation: create a folder for e-mails with sub-folders in format YYYYMMDD , and save in the current date sub-folder for easy location from Golden Rules Organizer.
  • Link to the file from Golden Rules Organizer.

To open the message in your e-mail client, press the link.

Minor Sub-Release 1.2.3 - More Editor Improvements

This sub-release adds the following important fixes to the descriptions editor:

  • Undo / redo follow atomic operations as perceived by user; there is no nag screen when cannot undo / redo.
  • Delete / backspace work properly at the end /beginning of paragraphs.

Note: in some well-considered situations, delete and backspace are ignored. For example, you cannot delete when standing at paragraph end immediately before a list. If you wish to join this paragraph with un-bulleted first paragraph in the list, you need first "un-bullet" the bulleted paragraph by positioning into it and pressing 'Bullets' (or 'List', if it's a numbered list), and then join with preceding paragraph by pressing either delete (at the end of preceding paragraph) or backspace (at the beginning of un-bulleted paragraph).

Minor Sub-Release 1.2.2 - Editor improvements

Following addition of HTML editor in the past minor release, a couple of editor updates were uploaded with v1.2.2:

  • Cut & paste now works properly, inclusive within bullets and lists
  • Editor is now able to save description to HTML file of your choice.

In addition, Reports were corrected to properly display ordered hierarchical lists (Listings, Activities, etc.).

Minor Sub-Release 1.2.1 - Remaining Effort Auto-Updates

The following enhancement facilitates remaining effort updates for activities and projects:

  1. Remaining effort (if specified) is automatically updated upon actual effort logging for the activity / project.

Note: remaining effort is updated by subtracting logged effort, rounded down to hours.
  2. Estimated effort, when entered while remaining effort is zero, is now automatically copied to remaining effort field.

Another fix done in this sub-release: Derby log will no more appear on the Desktop.

HTML Editor for Descriptions - Final Milestone

New minor sub-release 1.1.4, uploaded today, marks final milestone approaching minor release 1.2, and accomplishes HTML editor for Descriptions. At least, for now.

I recommend you to upgrade your Organizer, and see how different is the editing experience!

By the way, I edited this blog entry in the Organizer, and uploaded it to Typepad using copy & paste. It was much better feeling comparing to Typepad editor; only spelling is missing - but this can be usually done in the destination editor, in my case Typepad.

Minor Sub-Release 1.1.2 - Rich Text Descriptions

The upcoming minor release is dedicated to adding rich text capabilities to Golden Rules Organizer - now, with version 1.1.2 uploaded, you already can enjoy rich text editing for Descriptions / Comments!

It is built on HTML editor base, so, for example, you can exchange rich text descriptions with your blog by copying all / selected text to clipboard and pasting at your blog editor, or vice versa.

Hyperlinks added to the edited text are clickable in Description / Comments tabs, as well as in Reports.

Not to mention, this feature is backward-compatible with your existing descriptions.

Note: use Alt-Enter key if you wish to start a new line without also starting new paragraph.
